Kalpana Chawla

Kalpana Chawla, an Indian-American astronaut, was the first Indian woman to travel to space. Born in Haryana, India, she studied aeronautical engineering and went on to become a NASA astronaut. Chawla flew on the Space Shuttle Columbia in 1997 and tragically lost her life in the Columbia disaster in 2003. She is remembered for her passion for space exploration and inspiring young girls to pursue careers in science and engineering.
